Continuing Education Units (CEUs) at Doula School
What are CEUs?
Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which were formally referred to as Education Units, are a way to measure and recognize your professional development. They demonstrate your commitment to ongoing learning and staying current in your field. Generally, one CEU is awarded for each hour of learning.
Who Needs CEUs?
While Doula School encourages all doulas to pursue continuing education, many other professionals, including nurses, massage therapists, and other healthcare providers, also need CEUs to maintain their certifications or licenses. As a leading doula training organization, we believe in preparing our graduates for the future of birthwork. Continuing education ensures you remain at the forefront of this dynamic field.
Core Program Requirements:
Our Birth, Postpartum and Full Spectrum Doula programs require the following CEUs for certification:
- Lactation/Body-feeding/Breastfeeding (minimum of 4 CEUs)
- First Aid/CPR Training
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Training
- Food Handling Certification (required for those enrolled in the Postpartum or Full-Spectrum Doula programs)
Other programs, including Childbirth Educator, Fertility Doula and Menopause Doula, require a certain number of CEUs (referred to as EUs in those programs) that are directly relevant to the specific focus of each program. These focused CEUs ensure that doulas and educators working in these specialized areas possess the necessary knowledge and skills.
Recertification Requirements:
We ask that our alumni who are looking to maintain their certification with Doula School complete 15 CEUs every 3 years. This process is simple and free, and shows your commitment to ongoing professional growth and providing the highest quality support to your clients.
CEU Approval for Alumni:
You do not need to get pre-approval for CEUs. If the topic is relevant to your role as a birth worker, is in the scope of practice as taught by Doula School, and gives you a certificate of completion, then it will be approved. However if you’re unsure and would like us to review a course you can find more information here.
